Al Harthy joins Porsche Carrera Cup GB

19th March 2010

Ahmad Al Harthy is the latest single-seater driver to switch to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB after joining Red Line Racing for what is hoped will be a multi-year arrangement.

The Oman-based racer becomes the first Arab driver to compete in the Carrera Cup GB and 28-year old Al Harthy, who is based in London during the racing season, says that he is proud to represent his country in British racing. "I come from a country that does not even have a race track," he said.

Al Harthy has spent three seasons racing in Formula Renault BARC, finishing runner-up in 2009, but says that the plan was always to move into sports and GT racing. "Porsche was always something we had our eyes on and this year is all about adapting to the championship. This is a long-term plan and I want to go to the Porsche Supercup eventually.

"Now it is time for a bigger challenge and signing with Red Line was very important because of the experience they have," said Al Harthy, who started his motor sport in endurance karting events in Oman. "I came to the UK to learn about racing."

Team boss Simon Leonard is delighted to have completed his six-car squad with a promising talent. "It's fantastic to have Ahmad on board," said Leonard. "We've got the infrastructure in place and we're geared up to run six cars."
