Historics at Brooklands

Stunning recreation is a masterpiece of modern touch
A multi-award winning recreation of a Gallic racer, that pays appreciation to the role of modern coach-building within classic car ownership, is due for auction at Historics’ forthcoming sale on Saturday 26th May, at the Brooklands Museum.
The Delage D6 70, which ultimately raced to a fourth place overall finish in the 1937 24 Hours of Le Mans, was based largely on the Delahaye Type 135, with a lustrous fixedhead coupé body proving the most striking addition.
That success at Le Sarthe inspired the subsequent commission and build of a revised lightweight version of the body by Figoni & Falaschi in 1937, which then went on to secure success at the Donington TT amongst other races.
In 1998, renowned coachbuilder Michael Sharpe was commissioned to recreate this car, and his masterpiece of modern coach-building has since gained much acclaim, most recently as an overall winner of the 2010 St. Moritz Cresta Run Concours d’Elegance.
In the intervening years, the current vendor has overseen a period of detailed development, with the engine uprated to competition specification – including all six exhaust ports – rebuilding the Cotal semi-automatic gearbox and adding an alloy radiator amongst other sympathetic upgrades.
The car has subsequently seen a number of class wins at Silverstone, Donington, Pembrey, Oulton Park, Shelsley Walsh and Mallory Park. It has also competed regularly in the VSCC Set Three ODM competition for standard and modified cars, frequently coming out on top.
Beautifully presented and ready to be run immediately in Historic motor racing’s most important events, the Delage D6 70 TT Recreation offered by Historics comes with the all-important FIA Historic Technical Passport and VSCC buff form, and is expected to fetch offers in the region of £145,000 - £160,000 at auction, reflecting the painstaking approach and desire to reflect an electrifying driving experience.
