Monster does sub 10 minute Pikes Peak run

27th June 2011

...to win his class for the 6th consecutive time with his 850 BHP Suzuki. Probably the last year a gravel element of the course will exist to make it a poignant achievement for the Japanese legend.

Monster Tajima lowered his own record in the Unlimited class at Pikes Peak on Sunday, bringing the hill-climb mark from 10:01.41 minutes to 9:51.28.

During the final half mile of his attempt, Tajima had to contend with a leaking radiator, as his 850 BHP Suzuki began to overheat.

Monster's nearest competition was Rhys Millen with his Hyundai Genesis PM580 at 10:09.24.

It will probably be the last year for the event to have a loose surface element as the local authority plans to pave the remaining 3 miles of the 12.42-mile course. Many purists consider the 10:04.06 time, set in 1994 by Rod Millen on an almost entirely non-tarmac course, to be the most impressive ascent of the mountain.

Anyway - still a bloody good effort by Tajima - check on the vid link below and relive your Gran Turismo early playing days with his souped up Suzook.
