More useful mileage for Panciatici at Jerez
17th March 2010
Nelson Panciatici’s pre-season Formula Renault 3.5 preparations continued at Jerez, Spain last weekend where the Junior Lotus Racing squad’s emphasis was focused towards developing the car’s race pace.
With the new season now just five weeks away, the Frenchman and his team were content to work through a number of race set-ups and aerodynamic configurations, while resisting the urge to set eye-catching low fuel lap times.
Despite this strategy, Nelson still ended the opening day fifth fastest of all thanks to his 1m30.210s effort set late in the afternoon. By the end of day two, he was eighth overall, again having worked hard on finding solid race pace on worn tyres without exploring the limits of his car.
Nelson: "As Jerez isn’t included on the WSR calendar, we were mainly looking at preparing for the season’s opening races whilst trying out several technical solutions. What is really positive is that we were always up there with the fastest cars, regardless of the track conditions, which is key if I want to fight for the championship this year. The Junior Lotus Racing guys have again done a great job, which I’m sure will continue at Magny-Cours next week."
Junior Lotus Racing Technical Director Alex Somerset: “Nelson worked through a programme using low and high downforce settings and recorded very good lap times in both configurations whilst running on old and new tyres. As he felt there was more progress to be made by going out on new rubber while the circuit was clear, he didn’t save a new set for the glory runs later on when the track was at its quickest. We were again very pleased with his feedback and response, and we are looking forward to the Magny-Cours test where we will be able to continue our work.”
Junior Lotus Racing will continue their pre-season build-up at Magny-Cours next Monday, ahead of the final group test at Motorland Aragon, Spain on April 17/18.
