Phil Hayes upbeat about 2010 trials season
11th March 2010
With his trusty Qt Pro-Trial 80” Special having undergone major surgery over the Winter, Phil Heys, one of the UK’s most successful trials drivers, is champing at the bit for the trials season to start.
Phil entrusted the work to his engineering support team, Qt Services of Liskeard, Cornwall, whose modifications should help him stay ahead of the competition. Qt Services have particular experience in suspension tuning and it is in this area, with the fitting of new competition springs and damping technology that he feels will give him the edge. “These machines perform so well over the roughest terrain but Qt’s suspension improvements will take this 80” into a different league,” says Heys.
In addition to the suspension setup, Qt have fitted one of their unique high articulation rear A-frame joints, performance engine mounts, flexi-arch wheel material and diff guards, which Heys and Qt identified as key areas for improvement.
Heys is keen to maintain his position, especially with competition becoming stronger every year: “The level of professionalism in trials these days is extremely high and I’m pleased that Qt are always able to deliver that little bit extra for me. I just have to make sure I can take full advantage of it!”
Although the season is now under way, Phil is looking forward to August when he will be defending his title at the annual Baskerville Challenge in the highly competitive 80” Modified class.
