Probably the most expensive car crash in history

Eight Ferrari, three Mercedes-Benz, a Lamborghini and two other vehicles involved in Japanese pile-up.

Estimate damaged cars worth at least 300m yen ($3.85m; £2.46m)

While the majority of the 14 vehicles involved  – including a Nissan GT-R Skyline and a Toyota Prius – were travelling along the Osaka Prefecture-bound lane at least one Mercedes CL600 was driving in the opposite direction.

Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun reports that the accident happened as the group were on an outing to the city of Hiroshima  The sports cars were driven in convoy by a group of automobile enthusiasts

Police say they believe the accident, which took place on Sunday, happened when the driver of one of the Ferraris tried to change lanes and hit the median barrier.

"A group of cars was doing 140-160km (85-100 miles) per hour," said an eye witness "One of them spun and they all ended up in this great mess."

Ten people received minor injuries but no one was seriously hurt, the highway was closed for six hours after the accident.
