Robertson Racing bounce back at Sebring

19th March 2010

A heroic effort from the Robertson Racing crew ensured that the team’s Ford GT returned to the track this morning, ahead of this weekend’s 12 Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida, following the car’s near right-off on Monday.

The Atlanta-based squad has spent the past two days rebuilding their GT2 challenger from the ground up with the chassis, engine and bodywork all requiring major attention after the car hit the Turn 11 wall hard.

Having passed scrutineering earlier in the morning, David Murry gave the car its initial shakedown during the day’s opening hour-long free practice session, before David Robertson also put mileage on the #40 entry.

Robertson Racing Team Manager Andrew “H” Smith said: “There was quite a lot of damage, even the engine separated from the chassis. It was quite a major job and probably the biggest recovery we’ve made whilst at the track. With that much damage you’d usually pack up and go home but as we’re here for the week we’ve assessed the damage, brought specialists in and welded the chassis back together. Thankfully we went out this morning and ran it round without any issues. I’m really proud of the guys for what they’ve done. It’s a great achievement. There was a lot of work but we’re back in the game, which is what it’s all about.”
