Scuderia Vittoria snaps up Clio star Dixon

Top racing team Scuderia Vittoria has completed the coup of the Renault Clio UK Cup off-season by snapping up hotly-tipped star of the future James Dixon.
 
The 21-year-old from Kent finished fourth in the Clio Cup last year – his first full season in touring car-style racing – and with four victories had a bigger win tally than anyone else.
 
Now he moves to Scuderia Vittoria, where thanks to assistance from backer One Call Insurance he will join Scottish racers Vic Covey Jr, Finlay Crocker and Ronnie Klos.
 
Dixon, after a strong karting career, showed promising form in single-seater racing cars before the funds ran out. Since then he has established himself as one of the brightest British prospects to be a touring car star of the future.
 
Scuderia Vittoria co-team principal Danny Buxton said: “We’ve been speaking to him for a couple of weeks, and what came across was his passion to win.
 
“He felt a bit frustrated not to win the championship last year. We think he was the most complete, rounded driver out there. Hopefully we can put an experienced arm around his shoulder, and with his talent that should be enough for the championship.”
 
Buxton added that Dixon will also play a role in helping his new team-mates, two of whom have never raced a Renault, get up to speed in the prestigious Clio Cup, which is one of the most-popular support series on the British Touring Car Championship bill.
 
“James is massively motivated not only for himself, but he will be helping coach the others. He can’t wait to get started. We’re delighted, as he’s a driver we really wanted for this year.”
 
Scuderia Vittoria plans to have Dixon testing by the end of February in plenty of time for the opening race weekend, on his home circuit of Brands Hatch on March 31/April 1.
 
The team has the capacity to run up to six cars in the Clio Cup this season, and is hoping to announce further driver signings in the coming weeks.
