TCR Confirms Robinson and Tordoff For 2010 Clio Bid

5th February 2010

Wednesbury’s Total Control Racing will retain the services of Mike Robinson and Sam Tordoff for the 2010 ELF Renault Clio Cup as the multiple championship winning team bids to reclaim both the driver and entrant titles.

Effingham-based Robinson has been a front-running regular in the Clio Cup for the past two years, having previously enjoyed a successful tenure in Caterham Roadsport competition which delivered race wins in 2006 and 2007.

Finishing sixth overall in the Clio Cup championship for the past couple of seasons, the 27-year-old undoubtedly has the pace and experience to be a major title threat and the Surrey driver will be aiming to add regular podiums and, hopefully, victories to his superb consistency.

Tordoff, the 2007 Super 1 MSA British Formula ICA Karting Champion, graduated to the Clio Cup last year and immediately made his presence felt. During the seventh race meeting of the campaign, the 20-year-old secured his maiden podium in race one before scorching to a debut victory in the second of the weekend’s encounters.

Remaining with TCR for last November’s ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup, the Leeds racer took his second win of the year and a further podium too – missing out on the championship title by just a single point to team-mate Daniel Lloyd.

Commenting on the team’s first two driver signings of 2010, TCR principal Lee Brookes said: “It’s great for us to be able to continue working with Mike and Sam this year. The continuity this will give us is going to be fantastic and there’s no doubting they can both be challengers for the 2010 title.

“Sam had an excellent debut season last year, thoroughly deserving his race wins and podiums, and although Mike had a lot of bad luck he still managed to score consistently well to end the year in the championship top six. We’re confident both drivers will do a fantastic job this year, we really want to win back the driver and team titles.”

In 2009, TCR enjoyed a typically strong season with plenty of silverware in addition to the Winter Cup crown won by Lloyd and the successes of both Tordoff and Robinson. Alex MacDowall ended the main Clio Cup season as Vice-Champion, with four race victories and eight other podiums, and now looks poised to build on all he has learned as a TCR driver with a potential move to touring cars.

Unquestionably the most successful team in Clio Cup racing, the West Midlands squad is now keen to conclude deals with two further drivers to complete its four-car line-up for 2010. For more details, please contact Lee Brookes on 0121 5561999 or via email through p1tcr@aol.com

TCR is also planning to field a multi-car squad once again in the Ginetta G50 Cup to defend the team title won during the squad’s debut season in the championship last year. More news regarding this will be announced in due course.
