Motorbase wins British GT title

The Motorbase Performance Porsche 911 GT3R crew of Daniele Perfetti and Michael Caine won the 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship in a dramatic final round at Donington Park on Sunday (30th September). From five cars that went into the final two-hour race with a chance of taking the title, it was Perfetti, Caine and Motorbase that turned in a superb team performance to win the crown at the conclusion of the best and most competitive season in the history of the British GT Championship. In a dramatic race of changing fortunes, the Motorbase Porsche blended speed with consistency to claim fourth place overall in the race and take the title by just three and a half points from 2010 champion David Ashburn (Trackspeed). Only a determined fight back over the second half of the season got the Perfetti/Caine car into contention for the title. It is a stunning result for the team, said Motorbase team boss David Bartrum. British GT has such an impressive grid of cars and a high quality field. Its been a thoroughly enjoyable season. To arrive here at the start of the season and see so much quality from Aston Martin, Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche, and to race against them and win: thats not a bad first year for the team. Im over the moon for my guys whove worked very hard all year, as have our drivers. For Perfetti and Caine, it was a true high point of their racing careers to date. It feels great, said Perfetti. Halfway through the season I wouldnt have thought wed be here. The team has done a great job and that starts with David. Its great to have someone fantastic on top.Caine, who last raced in the British GT Championship in 2005, was elated to add such a major title to his impressive racing record. Its great for the team and its great for the car, said Caine. I had problems hearing the team during the race and didnt know where I was in the championship. I only knew wed won when I crossed the line and the guys were leaning over the pit wall. Motorbase has put so much effort in and I owed the team a championship for all the effort David has put into my racing.
