Masters Historic Racing Champions crowned

All champions will carry the coveted No1 number during the 2013 season

Masters Historic Racing has confirmed its four champions from 2012 after the final weekend of racing at Donington Park in October.

Andrew Beaumont, Mark Bates, Leo Voyazides, Andy Wolfe & Graham Wilson have all earned a champion title, the latter two after sharing a car all season.

Beaumont took his Lotus 76 to GP Masters honours with five class wins from seven races during the season. Masters boss Ron Maydon took second in his Amon 101, Michael Lyons took two victories on his way to third in the championship in the family-owned Hesketh 308.

Mark Bates (Porsche 911 RSR) successfully defended his WSM title for Le Mans-style sports cars, his season including six class wins giving him the title by 29 points over his nearest rival. Jamie Boot was the best of the rest in his Chevron B16, while Simon Hadfields efforts in Leo Voyazides Lola T70 and his Genie netted him third place, four class wins going his way.

Voyazides took the Pre-66 Touring car Championship title after a hugely successful season in his Ford Falcon. The Greek driver took five wins, his only hiccup coming when the gearbox broke at Brands Hatch. Mini exponent Phil Burgess, who battled hard all season, took a well-earned second place ahead of class and arch-rival Christian Devereux, who took a win at Barcelona in April.

A great season by Graham Wilson and Andy Wolfe gave them the Gentlemen Drivers pre-66 GT title in Wilsons Lotus Elan. Although their campaign started late, missing the opening two races, a consistent second half of the season (including two wins) secured the crown ahead of Allan Ross Jones (Austin Healey 3000) and the Morgan +4 SLR of Keith Ahlers and James Bellinger. Ross-Jones and Ahlers/Bellinger tied on points and on class wins with two apiece.

The Masters Historic Racing calendar for 2013 will be announced shortly and will give the champions an opportunity to defend their titles.
