Will Nicholls makes return in WWRS R.A.C. Rally Championship

Former Subaru Impreza WRC driver Will Nicholls will return to rallying regularly this season in the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship, starting on the Rally Marketing Mid Wales Stages (Sunday 3 March).Nicholls has been out of rallying more than two years away from the sport due to a back injury sustained on the Abingdon Stages, but it now eager to get back into the sport and has made the switch to historic competition.The former BTRDA Gold Star champion will contest the R.A.C. Championship in an ex-Peter Egerton Ford Escort Mk2, built by XS Racing, and will open his campaign on the Mid Wales Stages. Nick Broom will again co-drive for the Isle of Wight driver.As well as winning the prestigious Gold Star title in 2008, Nicholls was runner-up in 2009 and 2010. He has won the Somerset Stages three times and the Monteburg Rally Sprint no less than five times.Weve got some cobwebs to blow away, said Nicholls, who used the Escort for the first time on last Novembers Tempest Rally. Ive never done the Mid Wales and Pikes Peak is new to me: it looks a fantastic stage. Were really looking forward to it and we hope to sneak into the top 10, but the quality of the entry is incredible.Backing for the Escort will come from Red Funnell Isle of Wight Ferries and Kumho Tyres, two companies that have supported Nicholls for more than a decade.
