2011 title winner Malvern returns to Jamun Racing; one of at least five returning drivers from past Formula Ford seasonsScott says he is more than capable of hitting the ground running and has highest confidence in team
Scott Malvern is to return to the series in which he made his racing name, the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, to make a second assault on the title. The 2011 champion has rejoined his old team, Jamun Racing, in a last-minute deal.
Malvern has landed backing from lifting and plant movement company Contract Lift Solutions and will race the Mygale chassis used last season by Ryan Cullen, thanks to additional backing from SDS.
Barkingside-based Scott, 24, has yet to have his first taste of the chassis and its new-for-2013 aerodynamic enhancements. I am really pleased to be racing again and the Ford EcoBoost 200 looks like its going to be a really exciting car to drive, said Malvern, who hopes to test soon.
Weve worked hard to put something together. It is very a late deal, which means that we havent been able to test as most of our rivals have been doing. But we also showed last season that we are more than capable of hitting the ground running and I have the highest confidence in the team to put a good car under me. Im not making any bold claims - the mileometer is reset to zero again - but we will aim to put some solid points on the board at the first weekend and then build it from there. Thirty rounds is a long season; hopefully we will be able to secure the funding to stick around for the rest of it.
Scott was Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship runner-up in 2010 and won the title with Jamun the following season thanks to 18 race wins (13 of them consecutive) from 24 starts. Last season he won the BARC Formula Renault club championship title with Cullen Motorsport. Hes twice been a finalist in the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award and was voted British Club Driver of the Year 2012 by Autosport readers.
Malverns addition takes the Jamun Formula Ford squad to four for the coming season. The teams other Mygales will be raced by Argentine hotshots Juan Rosso and Nico Maranzana, and by Luke Williams, another driver who, like Malvern, is returning to Formula Ford after several seasons in the championship. Williams was a race winner in Formula Ford in 2012.
Williams and Scott are not the only returnees to Formula Ford as the championship enters its new era - the 2009 Scholarship title winner Dan Cammish will head the challenge from the JTR team, the squad which wrested the championship crown away from Jamun in 2012 after a seven-season run. George Blundell and Fred Martin-Dye also have a seasons Formula Ford experience under their belts.
The opening rounds of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain are just two weekends away at Brands Hatch (30/31 March), where the series will take up its new slot as a BTCC support event in front of ITV4s live cameras.
