Top 10 finish for Callum Black on Jim Clark Rally

Callum Black got his British Rally Championship campaign on track with a solid top 10 finish on the weekends Jim Clark Rally (May 31st/June 1st) despite a couple of setbacks during the course of the two day event. The rally, based around the Scottish towns of Kelso and Duns, is the only one on the UK mainland to take place on closed public rounds and, as the second round of the Championship attracted a strong entry from Britain and beyond.Unfortunately for Callum and co-driver James Morgan just four and half miles into the second stage of the event they found themselves stuck behind a slower car and were forced to follow it for the remaining 11 miles of the stage, dropping around a minute to their championship rivals in the process.Nevertheless, they continued to set competitive times in their Millers Oils Citroen DS3 for the remainder of the day.Day two saw the young pairing adopt a brave tyre choice when, despite damp road conditions, they opted to fit slick tyres on their Autosport Technology run car. We were able to get good heat into the tyres before the stage starts, explains Callum, but there was a 20 minute delay at the start of the stages which allowed the tyres to cool again and gave the advantage to the teams running intermediate tyres.Nevertheless, eighth place overall has given them encouragement for the remainder of the championship. The car ran faultlessly and James and I have really gelled as a team, said the 21 year old Brackley based driver, adding, I just need to find a little more pace on tarmac and I am confident that I can do that. The championship returns to gravel forest stages for its next round, the Scottish Rally, which returns to the championship on June 28th/29th following a break of several years.
