Oli Basey-Fisher takes 7th Ginetta GT5 Challenge Podium at Snetterton

Oli Basey-Fisher delivered three superbly competitive race performances at his home track, Snetterton 300 Circuit, over the weekend, 15th/16th June, to climb into fifth in the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge standings and also secure his seventh podium of 2013.Despite a tougher than anticipated qualifying session on Saturday morning, in which the 17-year-old Academy Motorsport driver had to settle for an uncharacteristic 14th fastest time in the rain-affected outing, he was in superb form in all three rounds.Climbing through brilliantly to fourth in race one, he went on to take fifth in the second encounter and then capped off the weekend tremendously with third in the final race. Notably, Oli set a searing pace in all three racesposting the fastest lap in round 11 and just missing out on the quickest time in the other two outings by a mere 0.1 seconds on each occasion.Im really pleased to be back on the podium at my home track and even though we made things hard for ourselves in qualifying, the car was fantastic in the races, said the Century Logistics-backed driver, Our pace was really good, fastest lap in race two was great and to only miss out by a tenth on fastest lap in the other two races shows how competitive we were.Making incredible progress from the off in round 10, Oli stormed through from 14th position into the top six on the opening lap alone before passing Clive Richards on lap three to take fifth place. Staying there until the penultimate lap, he then profited from a spin for ex-champion Mark Davies to move into the top four and finish the race within 1.5 seconds of the podium.Beginning round 11 from 10th on the grid, courtesy of his second fastest time in qualifying, Oli rapidly moved into eighth place and although nudged back to ninth on lap two he quickly hit back to re-take the spot from Luke Davenport at Oggies on the third tour.Once again elbowed back to ninth on lap four at Agostini, the Suffolk One College student was determined to make progress and by lap six he was into the top half dozen. Moving into fifth on the seventh tour, Oli then grabbed fourth from Davenport at the hairpin a lap later before posting the fastest lap of the racea time of 2m10.067 seconds (82.17mph).With nothing to split the top four, the race built up to a fantastic conclusion but as Oli strived for a way past third placed Davies he was mugged by two other cars and demoted to sixthalthough he did manage to wrest fifth back almost immediately.

Round 12 was another action-packed encounter in which the first year Ginetta Challenge racer again made excellent progress after a difficult start. Slipping from fifth to eighth, Oli bounced back straight away and by lap four he was back into the top five.

Again producing very quick lap times, he steered his Ginetta G40 into fourth on the final lap ahead of Davies but was promoted to third post-race when original winner, and team-mate, Will Burns was handed a time penalty.Huge thanks to the guys at Academy Motorsport again for a great car this weekend, we were able to push in all three races and run some really good lap times, commented Oli, With the pace we showed, had we qualified on the first couple of rows we could potentially have been looking at another win. Im still happy with the results though, consistent scoring is what we need to achieve.Next on the calendar for Oli will be his first ever visit to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium for rounds 13, 14 and 15 of the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge on Friday, 12th July, and Saturday, 13th July.Provisional 2013 Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge Driver Standings (after Rd12):5th Oli Basey-Fisher, 236pts
