JD Classics wins Cartier Style et Luxe Best of Show

JD Classics showcased its road and race cars in static displays and dynamic demonstrations at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed (11-14 July). Celebrating the events 20th anniversary, over 185,000 visitors attended over the course of the weekend.

Within the Festival of Speed site was the Cartier Style et Luxe concours dElegance. Now in its 19th consecutive year, for 2013 50 headline vehicles from the events history were chosen for their rarity and beauty. This included JD Classics 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24S Spider.

The Cartier Style et Luxe had 12 judges including pioneering motor racing engineer Gordon Murray, Apple design guru Jonathan Ive, singer Simon Le Bon, with his model wife Yasmin, TV presenter Kevin McCloud and renowned designers Marc Newson and Terence Conran, plus many more.

After much scrutiny, the judges announced JD Classics Aurelia as Best in Show on the final afternoon of the Festival of Speed which was a real accolade given the carefully selected competition.

Adding to JD Classics static presence was the recently restored Toyota 2000GT on the Toyota Pavilion, the monstrous XJ12 Broadspeed Coupe in the Cathedral Paddock and the James Toseland World Land Speed Record attempt motorcycle, which formed part of the Land Speed Legends display.

JD Classics specialist team also managed two historically significant race cars that performed faultless runs up the 1.16-mile Hillclimb throughout the weekend.

This included the TWR XJS shared by motor racing stars Martin Brundle, Alex Brundle and Steve Soper, along with the ex-Jim Clark Mk1 Lotus Cortina driven by Kurt Englehorn.

JD Classics Managing Director Derek Hood commented: It has been a pleasure to be part of the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed 20th anniversary celebrations. We didnt anticipate taking Best of Show in the Cartier et Luxe because the competition was so stiff, but we are proud to have gone home with such a prestigious trophy.
