Dex and Chang join Formula Ford grid at Rockingham

Macanese kart star Chang Wing Chung to make his car-racing debut in a Falcon Motorsport MygaleJack Dex takes over SWBs Sinter and hopes to prove the speed of the Mygale-rivalling chassis

2 September, 2013 - Two drivers new to the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain are stepping up to the series for this months Rockingham rounds. Sixteen-year-old Chang Wing Chung, from Macao, will campaign a Falcon Motorsport-run Mygale after a series of successful tests with the Faringdon-based team, while Jack Dex, 21, will make his Formula Ford debut in SWB Motorsports Sinter chassis.

Chang Wing Chung - known in karting circles as Andy Chang - will be making his car-racing debut at mid-Septembers Rockingham event and plans also to contest the Silverstone rounds at the end of the month. He comes with an impressive karting pedigree, having been a junior China National Champion in 2007 and a frontrunner in the Asia Pacific KF3 Championship in 2010 and Asian Open 125 series the following season. He currently contests the European and World Championships in KF1 and KF2 with the Tony Kart team.

Andys racing mentor, Formula 3 teams boss Peter Briggs, says the Macanese racer has shown promise in testing: On his first go in a Formula Ford he was getting close to the times being set by Harrison Scott; hes had very little experience so far and we have some further tests planned ahead of Rockingham, so I think he will be OK. He will be doing Rockingham and Silverstone but cant race at Brands Hatch in October, sadly, as he has a clashing commitment with his kart team.

Chang will use the Formula Ford outings as preparation for his debut later this season in the Formula Masters China Series; he plans to race single-seaters in Britain or Europe in 2014 and his management team are weighing his options.

Dex will meanwhile race the Sinter which Kuwaiti pilot Zaid Ashkanani drove to a Scholarship class podium at Snetterton in early August. Dex, who has driven for SWB in FRenault and the JK Asia Racing Series, and who oversees driver coaching for the SWB kart team, tested the new EcoBoost 200 Formula Ford car at Silverstone last year. I wanted to do the full championship season, said Jack, but I struggled to find a budget and couldnt really spare the time off from work. It happens that I am free for Rockingham and someone has very kindly offered to fund the outing for me. I would like to do Silverstone as well, but we will wait to see how we get on, and then hopefully do a full season next year. SWB has been making good steps with the Sinter and it would be nice to get a result with it and to prove that its as good as the Mygale.

The 14/15 September Rockingham races will see the return of 16-year-old Connor Mills, who made a promising debut with the Meridian Motorsport team at Snetterton. The Northamptonshire speedway will also provide runaway championship leader Dan Cammish with the opportunity to clinch the Formula Ford title.
