MSA British Sporting Trials Championship

Round 14 – Mercian – Sunday, 20th October, 2013Reigning Champion Tom Bricknell regained the lead of the British championship with a win at the Mercian Trial on Sunday, his fourth of the season. Bricknell had a superb first round to climb all hills and was never challenged. Ian Veale, now recovered from a health scare six months ago, was thrilled to finish second overall after a very steady day, trickling most of the hills. Championship challenger Ian Bell dropped just two points on the first round, but a wrong choice of line cost him a few points just before lunch, dropping him to third overall. Finishing in 7th place Josh Veale, Ian's son, moved back to third in the Championship. Jerome Fack with his daughter Jess (SRB) in fifth overall won the intermediate class ahead of Andy Wilks and Mark Smith (RCAP) in tenth overall. Multiple autotest champion Alastair Moffatt, in only his second event in his own Facksimile, recruited new wife Gemma to passenger and finished an excellent thirteenth overall and best novice.The Mercian trial also hosted the Inter-Association team trial. The South West association retained the trophy with Tom Bricknell, Duncan Stephens and Andy Wilks who all finished in the top ten overall.
