Round 1: Golden Springs Trial, 2 March

Mark Hoppe won his first British championship level event amid atrocious conditions at the Golden Springs trial.

Hoppe took an early lead during the first round ahead of former champion Barrie Parker, whom he fended off to the finish. Bill Moffatt borrowed son John's championship-winning Vauxhall Nova to dominate the front-wheel-drive class and take third overall.

Meanwhile Dave Harvey took an early lead in the rear-wheel-drive class and won after a tie-break with Dave Robinson.
