Greg Holloway signs to lead SWB team in Formula Ford

Australian steps up from his home Formula Ford series to experience British championship with SWB team and Sinter chassisSWB hoping to secure second driver for the start of season

14 March, 2014 – Race-winning Australian driver Greg Holloway is the latest to sign up for the coming season of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain. Holloway is today confirmed as a member of the SWB Motorsport squad; he will pilot one of the team’s EcoBoost-powered Sinter chassis.

Holloway, a Melbourne native based in Vienna, Austria, began his racing career in Australia in 2011 in the Formula Ford Victorian Championship. He moved up to the Australian Formula Ford Championship for 2012 and also took in rounds of the Skip Barber Formula series in the USA. His most recent success was a first-place finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the Skip Barber Formula Winter Series in January.

“I’ve opted for Formula Ford because I want to race a bit more in the UK,” said the 28-year-old. “The competition in Europe is stronger and Formula Ford is a great place to learn – my aim is to get as far as I can in single-seaters. I like the car, it’s very responsive and the EcoBoost engine has a lot more power than I’ve been used to, so it will be a good learning experience for me. My aim is progress my career and hopefully look at F3 or GP3 for the future.”

Greg opted for SWB after testing both its Norfolk-made Sinter chassis and the French-built Mygale favoured by the championship’s other teams: “There is great potential in the Sinter and I am sure that SWB and I will be able to progress towards the sharp end of the grid with it as the season progresses – I am looking forward to the challenge and to working with the team.”

SWB team chief Simon Baldry is delighted to have Holloway on board for the season: “We suffered last year from not having a single driver with us all season on whom we could focus. Greg’s signing is very good news for us and things are looking a lot more positive. He’s done a fair bit of racing and it will be good to have someone on board with that experience.”

SWB hopes it will field two Sinters: “We are close to a deal with another driver and although it will be a bit last-minute, we believe that we can get a second car to the grid for Brands Hatch at the end of the month.”

Motorsport engineering graduate Baldry created SWB Motorsport in 2010 after several seasons of service with Fortec Motorsport. The team has won races in Formula Renault and enjoyed considerable success in karting and the Intersteps series. Several drivers took to the wheel of SWB’s Sinter chassis in 2013, with top-eight finishes scored by Fred Martin-Dye, Zaid Ashkanani and Jack Dex.

Formula Ford 2014 will feature 30 races at 10 rounds alongside the biggest attraction in UK motorsport, the British Touring Car Championship. The championship will boast live coverage on ITV4, as well as bumper trackside spectator attendance, and boasts a £30,000 cash prize fund. The opening rounds are in a fortnight (29/30 Mar) at Brands Hatch.
