Ibiza Racing Team enjoy troublefree pre-season AutoGP test

With the start of the 2014 Auto GP season just ten days away, Ibiza Racing completed the pre-season preparations with a trouble-free two-day test in Valencia. On the renowned Circuit Ricardo Tormo, a natural arena that once a year gets filled with tens of thousands fans for the Moto GP round, the Spanish team lined up two cars for Giuseppe Cipriani and Francesco Dracone. While the latter took the track on Tuesday alone, team owner Cipriani sat behind the wheel of the Zytek-powered Lola on both days carrying out a fruitful setup work in both race and qualifying trim.

Throughout the two days, the two Ibiza cars completed an amazing 172 laps for a total mileage of 690 kilometers (roughly the equivalent of 7 Auto GP races) without experiencing a single issue on their cars. Such a showing of reliability was the icing on the cake of two very positive days that saw Cipriani on an improving trend. Starting with a 1'23"427 in Session 1, the Italian entrepreneur improved with each outing, shaving nearly a second off that laptime and closing the second day with a 1'22"743 that was worth 6th place in the standings.

Now for the team it's already time to head to Marrakech, on the breath-taking city track that will play host to the Auto GP season opener on 12-13 April.

Giuseppe Cipriani: "There are many positives we can take from this test. The car performed well without any major woes, and our progression throughout the two days proves that we went in the right direction with our setup work. Our ideal laptime is better than the one we posted by 4 tenths, so we had even more pace and that bodes well for Marrakech. I have high expectations for the season opener, I would say that a top six finish in both races is well in our reach. Then we are still speaking about a city circuit with all its thrills and unknowns, but we have the speed to get a top six result, and that's the most important thing".
