Ferrari 375 MM Scaglietti Coupe wins Pebble Beach Concours

Ferrari 375 MM Scaglietti Coupe wins Pebble Beach Concours

For the first time in the 64 year history of Pebble Beach - Best in show was awarded to a Ferrari - the top accolade at the annual Concours D'Elegance.

The win was the first for a post-war car - usually the domain of pre-war classics from Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Mercedes Benz etc.

The 12th example of the 15 375 MM built was owner Jon Shirley's second best in show win - in 2008 he won with a 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 29000B.

The well known car was owned by Rossellini and Shirley acquired the car in 1995 from Mark Ketcham at which time he commissioned a restoration which yielded a class win at Pebble Beach in 1998. Since then he has enthusiastically used the car on a number of events and recently had it restored for this year's concours event.

The judges decision to award "Best in Show" to a post war car - and a Ferrari at that - could be seen as a cultural shift and should encourage a younger group of entrants with other exotic post-war cars to enter.

Jon Shirley is a real enthusiast who actively uses his cars - and it is good that the sheer exquisite beauty of the 375 MM has been rightfully acknowledged in Concours circles as a design classic.
