IN DETAIL

JD Classics is returning home to the UK with its best ever result at the Pebble Beach Concours of Elegance and The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering with three Best in Class wins and a Special Award. The events, which are the highlight of the Classic Car week in the Monterey Peninsula in California, are regarded as the most prestigious, glamorous and competitive events on the global classic car calendar.

This year the standard and competition was the highest ever making the awards received all the more satisfying for the JD Classics Team.

At the Pebble Beach Concours of Elegance, on Sunday 17th August, JD Classics was awarded Best in Class in the Post-War Touring category for the 1951 Geneva Motor show Prototype Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe. This very significant Jaguar, which is the first left hand drive FHC and was the original Jaguar press car, has been the subject of the most comprehensive restoration imaginable by JD Classics and was finished less than a week before the start of the event.

The second Best in Class trophy for JD was awarded to the Jaguar XK120 Jabbeke speed record car in the Post-War Sports Racing Category. This unique XK120 featuring the “bubble” canopy also picked up the Montagu of Beaulieu Trophy special award, which is presented to the most significant car at the event of British origin, prevailing over some extraordinary Aston Marin, Bentley, Jaguar and Rolls Royce cars.

Jaguar legend Norman Dewis and the man who set the World Speed Record for a production car at 172.412 mph in 1953, in this very car, was at the wheel to receive the trophy on the Concours Stage, to warm applause from the massed crowds on the lawns.

The week started well at the prestigious Quail event where JD Classics won Best In Class in the Post-War Sports Category with the Jaguar XKSS. One of only 16 produced and being effectively a road going D-type making it arguably the world’s first supercar, the XKSS had been newly restored by JD Classics and returned to its original factory colours of Mist Grey with red leather.

JD Classics was also represented by the 1937 SS100 owned by Jeff Lotman. This famous Pruett Brooklands racing car has been the subject of a complete body off restoration by JD Classics. Also on the Pebble Beach lawn was JD Classics’ own Ferrari 275 GTB/4 alloy, which had been prepared at Maldon to full concours standards.

Robert Jewers, JD Classics’ Director, commented: “Every year the rarity, quality and preparation of the cars at Pebble Beach and The Quail gets better – which is the reason why these events are the most competitive and prestigious concours in the world.

“So it is particularly satisfying to have our strongest ever year and bring back to Britain three Best in Class trophies and the Montague of Beaulieu Special Award.

“These awards are a testament to the passion, dedication and quality of the whole team at Maldon, working across our seven workshops who have literally worked around the clock for many months to prepare these important cars.

“This is one of our proudest days as a company and in many ways is the culmination of over twenty five years of experience and expertise made possible by our team of nearly 60 craftsmen, technicians and engineers.

“Finally we would like to thank the organisers at Pebble Beach and The Quail for putting on these incredible events which just get better and better each year. We have no doubt the standards of competition will be even higher in 2015.”
