Classic Motor Show to feature Porsche 917 frome Steve McQueen's Le Mans races

Classic & Sports Car is to put on a show-stopping display boasting probably the most valuable and significant car ever to appear at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. The genuine Porsche 917 with a fabulous racing history – and a film-star past – will appear at Birmingham’s NEC from 14-16 November.

Embracing the show's theme of 'The Big Screen', the world's best-selling classic car magazine is transporting the historic Porsche from the fabulous Spa museum in Stavelot, Belgium to Birmingham in order to recreate the iconic Steve McQueen movie Le Mans on its stand.

The car on show, in its current ownership since 1973 and generously supplied by Classic Autos of Kings Langley, is chassis 917 013/034 and actually took part in the filming of the 1970 movie when it was driven by the King of Cool himself.

It also racked up a raft of famous race wins including the Daytona 24 Hours and Monza 1000km, and was driven by such legendary names as Derek Bell, Pedro Rodrîguez, Jo Siffert, Richard Attwood, Gijs van Lennep and Jackie Oliver.

Although the 917 will undoubtedly be the centrepiece of the stand, the Classic & Sports Car editorial team will be on hand all weekend to meet fellow enthusiasts and visitors can take advantage of exclusive subscription offers and a range of superb free gifts.

This year, the magazine will be joined on its stand by the world's largest motoring archive – LAT Photographic. Show-goers can order prints from millions of historic photographs, cutaways and more to display in their house or garage, or simply to enhance their classic's history file.

If an enthusiast's car was ever raced, rallied, on a press fleet or at a motor show, LAT will almost certainly have period pictures of it, but it can also supply prints of virtually all road cars and motoring personalities as well as many of the most iconic motor sport pictures.

Members of the Classic & Sports Car team will be available all weekend to talk about the stand, the Porsche and/or the world of classic cars generally. E-mail james.elliott@haymarket.com in advance to organise a time and day, or just drop by the stand during the show.

The 2014 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show will be held from 14th to 16th November. For more information on the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show or Classic Motorbike Show as well as all the ticket prices and booking details, visit www.necclassicmotorshow.com.
