Silverstone Auctions on pole position for another 'Classic'

Silverstone Auctions on pole position for another 'Classic'

Following a hugely successful event in 2014, Silverstone Auctions is set to return to the home of British motorsport on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July with its Silverstone Classic Sales.

Last year’s auction saw total sales of more than £5 million and two world record prices, when 85 percent of the cars on offer were successfully hammered away. Wowing the crowds, a 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS in wonderful condition was successfully hammered away for a premium inclusive £82,225, more than £50,000 over its lower estimate and a world record for the model. Topping the bill was a 1950 Healey Silverstone which sold for a total of £212,750, while a 1996 Jaguar XJ220, aptly presented in Silverstone Green, sold for £187,450, more than £17,000 over its upper estimate.

This year’s sale could be another record breaker following a number of world record prices already achieved this year including a 1991 Ferrari Testarossa which sold for £202,500 while a 1999 Ferrari 456M was bought for another record breaking £118,125.

As always, the two-day sale will include a diverse and stunning collection of classic cars, modern sports cars, automobillia and luxury lifestyle items.

Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “The Silverstone Classic Sale is one of our most exciting auctions in the calendar. The catalogue always presents some very special cars and this year’s offering will be no exception.”

Silverstone Auctions has already consigned a beautifully restored 1963 Mercedes-Benz 230SL into the sale at the historic motor racing festival, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Commenting on the classic car market, Nick added: “The classic car market has certainly changed dramatically over the last 25 years. It is still in rude health with the best cars continuing to sell well. HAGI reported that the value of 'exceptional historic' cars climbed 12 per cent in 2014. Another current trend is the demand for more modern classics.”
