Over 70 classic and historic motor cars will go under the hammer at Coys long-established auction at the famous Ascot racecourse on May 16th.
The auction, held a the home of the traditional Royal Ascot horse race, features vehicles such as a 1956 Lotus Eleven Series 1 Le Mans Specification (estimated at £85,000 to £95,000) an Alfa Romeo TZ2 by Giordanengo (£155,000 to £180,000) and a 1960 Maserati 3500GT (£90,000 to £110,000).
Chris Routledge, Managing Partner of international auctioneers Coys, said: “Ascot promises to be a great auction with over 70 lots of high quality and most interesting classic and historic motor cars. We are also auctioning an exciting and varied offering of collectors’ items and automobilia.”
The Lotus Eleven on offer is a highly original example and eligible for the Mille Miglia. First supplied in short-door Club specification by Racing Engines Ltd, it was then upgraded to Le Mans spec, fitting a De Dion rear axle and disc brakes all round. Notably, in 2004, the car enjoyed a light restoration work at the hands of Le Mans racer Peter Sargent's personal mechanic. It is offered with the original buff logbook, its original steering wheel, current UK V5 document and a complete record of its history drafted by Lotus historian Graham Capel.
The Alfa romeo TZ2 was built in the late 70s using original Alfa Romeo components by the legendary coachbuilder Giordanengo, highly regarded for his fantastic 250 GTO and California Spyder. The car has been reconditioned after spending the last 40 years in the world regarded Milan Telecommunications Museum and is now ready to be driven and enjoyed.
The Maserati 3500 GT is truly wonderful example of the still much underrated Maserati 3500 GT. It was discovered in late 2012, being part of a large collection of cars held in deep storage near Venice, Italy. After a process of careful re-commissioning and a full Carburettor overhaul, the car is now waiting for a new owner to use it.
Other important lots include a 1995 Porsche 993 RS (estimated at £180,000 to £220,000), a 1918 Bianchi Sport (£85,000 to £100,000), a 1937 Ford V8 Model 78 “Woody” Station Wagon (£40,000 to £50,000) and a 1935 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Sports Saloon by Lancefield of London (£38,000 to £45,000).
