First-class Zuffenhausen legends go under the hammer

Famed to be one of the most popular marques of choice and taking the limelight in terms of investment potential and driving pleasure, the popularity of Porsche cars are showing no sign of slowing down.

Ahead of the 5th Silverstone Classic sale at the iconic circuit, a hand-picked selection of Porsches of all eras and disciplines will be sold, many of which are featured below.

The Porsche selection sits alongside a 130+ lot strong catalogue of race and road cars, as well as luxury leather goods, watches and memorabilia.

This specially selected group of cars reaffirms Silverstone Auctions' knowledge of the marque in the current classic car market, alongside being chosen to be Porsche Club GB's auction partner.

1991 Porsche 964 RS N/GT - estimate: £230,000 - £260,000

This iconic 964 RS is one of the most special of its kind available on the open market at the moment.

Offered here is the first production 964 RS N/GT (clubsport) carrying the chassis number 9011. Allegedly the car was gifted to Porsche-only racing driver, Ulrich Richter in 1991 and stayed in his ownership until 1993. The car, finished in rare Maritime Blue paint, is said to have been a gift from the marque to coax him back into GT racing and was set-up at his favourite track, the Nürburgring.

The car has had substantial work in the last decade, including an engine rebuild (top and bottom end), suspension and brake replacements and a full glass-out respray. It comes with a comprehensive history file containing all service records, Porsche Letter of Authenticity and MOTs daing back from 1995 to present day and, of course, the original owner's manual.

1989 Porsche 911 930 Turbo LE - estimate: £120,000 - £140,000

The Porsche 930 Turbo is a genuine supercar that defined the Seventies and Eighties. To celebrate its life, the marque created 50 Limited Edition (LE) models, available only to the UK market.

The engine of the 930 - based on the Carrera 2.7 RS and powered by a turbocharger, inspired by the manufacturer's 917/30 Can-Am programme - made it one of the fastest production cars available at the time. To stop the car, it used brakes lifted directly from the 917 racing car.

The car presented in the sale has optional locking limited slip diff, short-shift gear lever as well as a sunroof and velour carpets. It has covered just over 30,000 miles and comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a recent health check from Porsche West London in May 2014.

 1973 Porsche 911T Carrera 2.4 Targa - estimate: £48,000 - £52,000

This extremely rare right-hand drive 2.4-litre 911T Targa is an exceptionally sought-after example in the current market. Finished in true Seventies style in original Sepia Brown with matching Sand upholstery and corduroy panels, it is an eye-catching car in excellent condition.

It still wears its age-appropriate registration number of TUY 911L and comes with a good history file, including a clipping of a press cutting in which it features in Classic Porsche Magazine.

1998 Porsche 993 Turbo S - 'The Last Waltz' - estimate: £249,000 - £279,000

In March 1998, the 993 production line was coming to an end and the new water cooled 996 was starting. Towards the end of that month (two months before the marque's official 50th anniverary) the 'father figure' of Porsche, Ferdinand (Ferry) Anton Ernst Porsche passed away.

It is believed that in the Spring of 1998, 20 993s were taken off the production line and hand built as part of the Exclusive Programme. At the moment, we understand that these cars were 993 4-wheel drive Turbo S' with the 450ps engine and a six-speed gearbox.

Painted Iris blue, with colour-coded wheels and calipers with matching blue interior and dials as well as the airvents, the cars were also presented with an aluminium plaque on the dashboard to commemorate Ferdinand 'Ferry' Porsche.

We believe that this car is one of the 20 cars, which rarely appears on the open market. This left-hand drive car has recently arrived from Japan and has only covered 10,600kms, with service records to verify.

1973 Porsche 911 2.7 RS Replica - estimate: £75,000 - £90,000

The Carrera RS is still to this day regarded to be the 'benchmark' 911. In recent years it has had an unprecidented growth and increase in price.

This replica, which is based on an original 1973 right-hand drive 911E Coupe, is now fitted with an original Carrera RS engine from 1974 and stays faithful to its track-prepared RS counterpart.

1957 Porsche 356A Coupe - estimate: £75,000 - £85,000

The 356A thoroughly updated the line-up of 356 coupes, cabriolets and speedsters. Visually, the 356A was only slightly different, with wider tyres, a rubber strip below the doors and curved screen. Interior-wise, the car had a flat-faced dashboard, locking glovebox and a radio.

The example on offer today is a fantastic 356A T1 in original condition, the complete set of dash knobs in ivory are a sight to behold and the recent bare metal respray in original Meissen Blau is in wonderful condition - it's clear to see this car has been pampered by its previous owners.

1979 Porsche 911 Martini Turbo 930 - estimate: £60,000 - £75,000

'It's the right one, the bright one, it's Martini' - a tagline for the drinks company and their motorsport advertising in the Seventies and one that is apt for this car in present day.

This particular 930 Turbo is a low-mileage and well maintained example for its age, with a genuine 75,000 miles from new and 11 service stamps in the log book. Resplendent in factory optioned Martini stripes, research suggests that this car is one of 24 right-hand drive Turbos with this colour scheme built in 1979.

1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GT - estimate: £35,000 - £40,000

This homologation special 924 is based upon the Group 4 Sports Car Class for Le Mans, named the 924 Carrera GT. Standard specificiation included a close-ratio dog-leg 5-speed gearbox, limited slip differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, plastic front and rear flared guards and an impressive 150mph top speed. Only 75 cars were produced for the UK market.

This right-hand drive Carrera GT was originally supplied to Dick Lovett and subsequently sold by the dealer a following four times. The paintwork is described as "excellent for its age" and the same could also be said for its mechanical condition.
