MRS and Engelhart focused on Porsche Supercup Championship lead at Spa

With only three remaining race weekends in this year´s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season, Molitor Racing Systems and Christian Engelhart are going into the final phase in order to chase the championship´s crown. Following a third place at the last Supercup race at Budapest, the Ingolstadt-based driver is currently second in the standings with a gap of just ten points.

The sixth and seventh race of the current Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season will take place this coming weekend – and nowhere else, but on one of the most famous and challenging race tracks on the calendar: the 7-km-long rollercoaster track of Spa-Francorchamps. The track, which is suited amidst the Belgian Ardennes, is one of the few tracks that has hardly changed in its original layout. Apart from a few changes, like the Bus-Stop-Chicane, the track has not changed since 1979.

For the first time this year, there will be two instead of just one Supercup race as a support act to Formula One. Whilst both drivers and teams had to endure a massive heatwave at the last race meeting, the typical weather at Spa will most likely bring rain.

“The traditional circuit with its up-and-down passages is everything a racing driver asks for”, says Christian Engelhart. “Then you have the unpredictable weather, which decides the races most of the time, but making the weekend much more exciting. We look forward to tackling the last races of the season and with only ten points behind in the championship standings, we might be able to turn the table this weekend.”

Engelhart´s team-mate, the Australian Spike Goddard, impressed with a continuously good performance recently and comes back stronger following a short summer break. “Spa is one of a kind”, says the 23-year-old. “The track in Belgium is one of my favourite race tracks and with Eau Rouge and Blanchimont, you have two of the world´s most famous corner combinations that give you goosebumps.”

The first race will take place on Saturday at 6:20pm, with the second following on Sunday at 11:45 am. Both races will be broadcast live on SKY and Eurosport2
