Julia Josten will be back in front of the camera for SPORT1 at the weekend. The charming lady presenter from Hamburg will be at the sixth ADAC GT Masters and ADAC Formula 4 race weekend to introduce racing live from track and pit lane at the Sachsenring for SPORT1 (August 28th-30th). Josten is presenting the Super Sports Car League for the first time during the 2015 season and, in this interview, talks about her experiences in the ADAC GT Masters, Mick Schumacher, cockups and her personal likes. How does it feel to be a woman surrounded by men in motor racing? Julia Josten: "I feel quite at home. I'm used to it from football, plus, I used to hang out a lot with my cousins and learned as a young girl not to be a pushover. However, it doesn't matter ultimately whether you're male or female - the main thing is that the chemistry is right, which it is, both in the two racing series and in my team especially." You first got started on popular shows, so how did the switch to motorsport come about? "My father used to work for one of Ferrari's major sponsor, so I got to know quite a few racetracks at an early age. Also, I had a student job with Formula BMW ADAC back in the days when Sebastian Vettel raced there. I've always been interested in motorsport. I was obviously delighted when SPORT1 asked me to present the ADAC GT Masters and the ADAC Formula 4 and didn't need to give it a moment's thought." What do you find fascinating about motorsport? "Definitely the cars, and the sound, but the teams behind the drivers as well. So many cogs have to mesh together. Everybody puts their heart and soul into it. I always love to see the winning team's euphoria. It's really great to be there in the thick of it. The whole atmosphere at such a weekend is just amazing." What's the special attraction of the ADAC GT Masters? "I think it's super that two drivers share a car. It's real team work, isn't it? And of course, team, car and strategy all have to work equally well. No car is better than the others thanks to the special rules, so it's always exciting." What has been your best moment so far this season? "There have been one or two. It was incredibly hot at the Lausitzring. I made my end-of-programme piece to camera from the pool set up by kfzteile24 MS RACING and even dipped my head in the water. That was simply hilarious! There was another unforgettable moment at the first ADAC Formula 4 race weekend. Mick Schumacher was in the line-up, making his debut, which caused quite a stir. And then he actually won. That was a magic moment. I don't know who was more excited, Mick or me. Me, most definitely!" Have there been one or two cockups as well? "Yes, of course! It's part and parcel of live broadcasting, but I don't have any problem with mistakes. As I always like to say: Having a sense of humour is when you laugh despite everything. But the biggest cockup happened during the heat wave at the Lausitzring that I just mentioned. I got mild heat-stroke and had to hang fire briefly while speaking, because I was seeing stars. My lovely colleagues - commentator Jan Stecker and resident pundit Patrick Simon - took over, because "Josten has a problem..." Which super sportscar do you like best? "Good question! Only dream cars compete in the ADAC GT Masters, so I can't make up my mind, but I'm not all that hard to please." Who do you tip to become 2015 champions? "Luca Ludwig and Sebastian Asch have been consistently in the points all season - it's really looking like those two. But they've got a Porsche and a BMW breathing down their necks. It's not over yet." Julia Josten on SPORT1 at the weekend SPORT1 will broadcast both ADAC GT Masters races on Saturday and Sunday live at 1:00 pm.
