Lister Cars is eagerly anticipating this weekend’s Goodwood Revival with a host of Lister competition cars taking to the famous track.

Some nine Lister racing cars, including five ‘Knobbly’ models, have been entered into the fiercely competitive Sussex Trophy on Sunday September 13th for world championship sports racing cars built between 1950 and 1960.

In Goodwood’s own words the racers featured in The Sussex Trophy are “big, powerful cars, perfectly suited to Goodwood’s fast, sweeping curves, and which always produce a stunning spectacle.”

The nine Listers will compete in an expected 31-car field racing against other period machines including several examples of the Jaguar D-type and Maserati Tipo 61 ‘Birdcage’ as well as the Ferrari 246S Dino and Aston Martin DBR2 among others.

The privately-entered Listers include one Lister-Jaguar ‘Flat Iron’, three Lister-Jaguar Costins, three Lister-Jaguar ‘Knobblys’ and two Lister-Chevrolet ‘Knobblys’.

Lister has produced a limited run of ten continuation ‘Knobbly’ cars. The reborn ‘Knobbly’ is built to the very same specification as the original 1958 ‘Knobbly’, using the late Brian Lister’s original drawings and manufacturing jigs.

All ‘Knobbly’ models are built to meet relevant FIA racing regulations and are powered by a race-prepared Jaguar D-Type 3.8-litre straight-six, producing 330bhp. Although all ten are now sold out overwhelming response from enthusiasts and the historic racing community has meant that Lister is considering a number of final special editions.

Lister Motor Cars chairman Lawrence Whittaker said: “Revival is without doubt one of the highlights of the historic motor racing calendar and with nine Lister cars, including five ‘Knobbly’ models, competing in the Sussex Trophy against some very capable competition, it’s going to be a very exciting weekend indeed.

“The Lister ‘Knobbly’ continues to prove extremely popular with the historic racing community, which certainly helps to explain the fantastic reaction we’ve had to our fully sold-out run of continuation ‘Knobblys’. Watch this space for more news on some final editions.”
