Rare High Wing 1992 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE features at Classic Car Auctions June sale

CELEBRATE 40 YEARS OF THE LOTUS ESPRIT WITH RARE ‘HIGH WING’ MODEL

A 1992 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE 'High Wing', one of just two original factory press cars, will be auctioned at Classic Car Auctions’ (CCA) June Sale on Saturday 18th June, at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, Leamington Spa.

In the year that Lotus celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Esprit, this car is the perfect opportunity to acquire an important example of the iconic model. This rare ‘High Wing’ variant, which appeared on the front covers of motoring magazines in the early 1990s and at various motor shows at the time of the model’s launch, will be offered for sale with an estimate of between £22,000 and £26,000.

A right-hand drive manual example, finished in Calypso Red with leather interior, the car presents today is very good condition and is showing just over 59,000 recorded miles.

Speaking ahead of the sale, Guy Lees-Milne, general manager at CCA, commented “We’re huge fans of the Lotus Esprit, which perfectly encapsulates Colin Chapman’s philosophy "simplify, then add lightness”, in a supercar package. This car represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a really nice example of a rare model, which has obviously been well cared for.”

The ‘High Wing’ was the only model produced by Lotus in 1992 after the final run of the Elan. It sported the Esprit’s most radical wing to date, along with a revised front bib increasing the top speed to 165mph. With a repackaged interior providing additional space, only 64 examples were produced making it a model rarely seen on the market today.

Following a sparkling career in the media spotlight, theiscar was later acquired by the current vendor, a gentleman with a passion for British sports cars and the owner of over 20 Lotus cars during his lifetime. He enthusiastically describes the car as “the most rewarding Lotus he has ever driven”. Included in the car's documents file are a valid MoT Certificate until December 2016 and a Lotus “Certificate of Vehicle Provenance”.

“At CCA we specialise in offering special ‘everyman’ classic cars. This Lotus, with an attractive guide price, definitely fits the bill and will provide the new owner with a whole host of fun. The June Sale is our biggest to date with over 160 cars for auction, and we welcome fans of all the marques to come along and invest in a classic to love and enjoy,” concludes Guy.
