HRDC introduces an important invitation series for historic Jaguar Touring Cars 1950-1966

Following the runaway success of its entry-level, one-make 'Academy' Series for Austin A30/35 cars, the HRDC will follow up this innovative concept in 2017, with a 'Senior' Series for historic Jaguar Touring Cars, embracing all saloon models of the type which were raced in period from 1950 to 1966.Julius Thurgood, Race Director and founder of the Historic Racing Drivers Club, is upbeat about the new concept: "From the very beginning of my plans to create an entry-level series into historic racing, I knew that there had to be a logical path to follow on from the HRDC 'Academy' that would be aspirational to both those drivers who were graduating through this grass-roots series and to those already experienced competitors who were seeking to race in a high-end but fair-play 'Senior Series'.

"Choosing Jaguar as the favoured marque was a no-brainer; its evocative stance in the historic racing arena is legendary and I was keen to keep the series restricted to Touring Car models, as I am passionately of the belief that this genre holds the greatest appeal to both competitors and spectators alike, for sheer close-racing and amazing spectacle."Jaguar's period success with this category is the stuff of legends, so again - a no-brainer. To also have Coombs Automotive, one of the greatest names ever associated with the Jaguar marque, on board as the principal sponsor of this series simply crowns a very exciting package. I cannot wait to see MkI and MkII Jaguars trading places at premier circuits throughout the UK - not forgetting the leviathan spectacle of those thundering MkVII racers duelling door handle to door handle with their counterparts. It will be a truly sensational Series!"As with all its categories, this series will be supported by the infectious value of the HRDC's renowned spirit of camaraderie, both on and off the track, making it a 'must-do' senior series in the historic racing arena. During the remainder of its racing season, the HRDC will create a special invitation class within its 'Touring Greats' Series, for those competitors with appropriate Jaguar saloons who would like to experience a first-hand preview of the club's special approach to historic racing.Eligible cars will race on an 'invitation only' basis to period regulations and run on mandatory Dunlop CR65 historic racing tyres.
