Time penalty demotes Rosberg to third after radio penalty

After post race deliberation Stewards at the British Grand Prix deemed that Rosberg was given illegal assistance over the team radio.

Rosberg had a 10 seconds penalty added to his race time demoting him to third behind Max Verstappen.

The team were judged to be in Breach of Art. 27.1 of the Sporting Regulations, that the driver must drive the car alone and unaided. The incident occured late in the race when the Mercedes driver developed gearbox problems and the team gave the driver instructions on how to work through the issue

Team mate Lewis Hamilton is now one point behind Rosberg the drivers’ standings, with 167 points to the German’s 168.

Mercedes intend to appeal the decision.
