Eugene Denyssen lives the Spa dream in British F3

South African Eugene Denyssen enjoyed his best outing yet when the British Formula 3 championship travelled to the epic Spa Francorchamps in Belgium and despite a few challenges in the races, the Somerset West driver scored his best results qualifying and race results to date in the series.

“It was an awesome experience racing at Spa we were even lucky to enjoy great sunny weather, which is not normal there!” Eugene admitted. “Our pace was strong all weekend — I ended up 3rd quickest in the last practice before qualifying, which was a bit scrappy with everyone trying to find a good slipstream to set a quick lap, so I was delighted to qualify 8th with everyone’s lap times being very close.

“Unfortunately I was hit from the rear, which spun me around in turn one and I dropped to the back of the field and I had to fight my way back up to finish 11th in the first race. “Then we had really good pace in race 2, but I was unlucky to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and I ended up fourteenth. “Still, I managed to set the sixth quickest lap over the weekend in that race, which put me 6th on the grid for the final.

“I had a good final, moving up to 5th place behind Lando Norris, but I made a small mistake before the long straight, which left me vulnerable and I dropped down to finish eighth, which is still my best result so far this season.

"All-in-all, I’m really pleased with the team and all the recent changes to the technical staff — we are in a stronger position than before and I’m confident that we can start challenging for podiums next at Snetterton in a month’s time — bring it on!”
