Silverstone success for Lloyd in Porsche Carrera Cup

Daniel Lloyd enjoyed a successful return to the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship at Silverstone last weekend, banking two top 7 finishes on his first appearance in three years on iconic National circuit (September 16-18).

Having penned a last-minute deal to pilot the In2 Racing Porsche 911 (type 991) for the final two race meetings of the season, Lloyd produced two faultless race performances, securing two 7th place finishes on his debut weekend with the Stratford-Upon-Avon based squad.

Making his first competitive appearance in the #32 Porsche Carrera Cup car on Saturday, Lloyd’s ultra-consistent qualifying session was rewarded with a P8 start for the opening race of the weekend – with the Yorkshire-man setting a best lap time of 56.347 seconds on the 1.64 mile circuit - just 0.44 seconds off pole.

Starting Sunday’s first live televised race from 8th on the grid, Lloyd’s steadfast drive saw the 24-year-old steer the In2 Racing Porsche up into 7th place by the chequered flag. Cementing his position on the grid for the final race of the day, Lloyd’s efforts were once more rewarded with his second 7th place finish of the weekend against the seasoned Pro class line-up.

“It was a really positive weekend;” commented Lloyd. “I really enjoyed working with In2 Racing team and it was great to be back in the Porsche again after such a long break. I worked well with Dan and Euan and McKay who both won races and the Pro-Am Championship at the weekend which was fantastic for the team and to be a part of.

“I was a little bit disappointed with two 7th place finishes as I was running in the top three in terms of pace for most of the weekend;” added Lloyd. “The key thing is though; we know that we have the pace in the car and that there’s more to come next time out at Brands Hatch.”

The Porsche Carrera Cup season finale takes place at Brands Hatch in Kent on October 1-2. With plenty of experience on the GP circuit, it’s a challenge that Lloyd is relishing as he looks to make his mark on the championship during the final two rounds.

“I’m really looking forward to the final at Brands;” concluded Lloyd. “It’s my favourite circuit in the UK. I have good track knowledge there which hopefully should give me an edge over the competition and now that I have a weekend in the Porsche under my belt and I feel sure we’ll hit the ground running and be able to show our full potential.”
