Ten E-Type Jaguars find new homes in strong HandH Duxford sale

BRITISH MARQUES ON TOP FORM AS WEAKER POUND ATTRACTS FOREIGN BUYERS

1959 Jaguar XK150SE 3.4 Litre DHC sells for £257,400

British marques dominated the H&H Classics sale at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, (October 12th) which made a total of £5m at a sale rate of 70 per cent.

Duxford as usual provided an excellent setting for H&H Classics which offered 138 classic cars and 61 motorcycles for sale including six Aston Martins that covered a 77-year span and no fewer than 10 E-Type Jaguars, all of which found new homes! As usual H&H offered a good spread of important six figure cars as well as more affordable classics.

It was a strong multi-million pound, well-attended sale with a standing room only crowd of around 800 bidders. The sale showed an ongoing interest in classic cars from both collectors and investors. Interestingly, the relatively weaker pound brought in additional new foreign buying interest. Strong bidding in the room was matched by online and telephone bidding from around the world.

Top prices for British Marques included:

1924 Bentley 3 / 4.5 Litre Tourer - £297,440

1959 Jaguar XK150SE 3.4 Litre DHC - £257,400

Besides these stunning cars from the past hundred years, H&H bidders at Duxford had the additional pleasure of Britain’s aeronautical history all around them – serried rows of the greatest aircraft of their time. Anyone with a feeling for automotive or aeronautical history could not fail to be moved by the ambiance of technical excellence allied to stunning beauty and presence of these mechanical creations. There is still much to be said for attending sales in person rather than arriving by means of IT on the phone or on the internet.
