Gibson Team Celebrates ELMS LMP2 Championship Win

G-Drive Racing takes LMP2 victory at 4 hours of Estoril ELMS season finaleIn the final round of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) at Estoril on Sunday, the G-Drive Racing team run by Jota Sport took victory in their Gibson 015S, in an action packed 4 hour race.The team went into the final race in second place in the Championship, trailing the leaders Thiriet by TDS by 14 points, but nothing was to stop the driver trio of Giedo Van Der Garde, Simon Dolan and Harry Tincknell from taking an emphatic win.Giedo Van Der Garde started 3rd on the grid for the team, quickly taking the lead on the first corner. Keeping with the pace of the newer chassis, Giedo finished his stint in the lead and passed on to Simon Dolan. A dominant run by Simon in the #38 saw him hand over the final 90 minutes of the race in the lead to Harry Tincknell, who brought the team home to victory.It was also the end of an era for the Gibson 015S, the chassis competing in its final ELMS race before being retired, due to chassis regulation changes in 2017. After 5 years of racing and 33 appearances in ELMS, Le Mans 24 Hours and the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the #38 open top Gibson finished its racing career in style with the Championship win. Amongst many notable victories for the Gibson 015S are the prestigious wins in the Le Mans 24 Hours, the most recent being in 2014 with Jota Sport.To add to Gibson’s success, SMP Racing and Krohn Racing finished the Estoril race 3rd and 4th respectively with Gibson-Nissan powered engines.‘What an amazing end to both the season and the Gibson 015S racing career’ said Gibson Chairman Bill Gibson. ‘Everyone at Gibson is thrilled for G-Drive and Jota Sport and I would like to congratulate them on their well deserved ELMS Championship win.
