Optimum seek more podiums as British GT heads to Rockingham

Optimum Motorsport are all set for the second round of the British GT Championship that takes place this weekend (29-30 April, 2017) at Rockingham International Speedway.

With just five points covering the top three pairings in the championship, Graham Johnson and Mike Robinson will be back behind the wheel of the #501 Ginetta GT55 GT4, looking to build on their two fine podium positions secured last time out at Oulton Park.

“We’re looking forward to the weekend as ever,” said Team Principal Shaun Goff. “We have had a small change in Balance of Performance that should help us a little. It will still be tough though as we have the extra ten second success penalty to take during the stop which will make life a bit harder for us. But again, podiums and consistency are the target.”

For Johnson, who chased car setup in qualifying at Oulton Park until making gains in the wet running on race day, Rockingham should be a good indicator of progress made with the balance of the car.

“We're making a few changes to the car for Rockingham, so we're hoping to be further towards the front in qualifying and then capitalise on that grid position for the race,” he said.

“Our race-pace at Oulton Park was clearly good, given the fact that we scored two podiums, but we need to get the car back to feeling like it did last year if we're both to have the confidence to challenge for the front row. We've never had a podium at Rockingham, so that's the goal for the race!”
