MSA Championships Update

Prestone MSA British Rally Championship
Round 2: Pirelli International Rally, 29-30 April

Fredrik Ahlin and Torstein Eriksen took their second consecutive BRC win after a close battle on the Pirelli International Rally.

Osian Pryce and Dale Furniss finished a close second after a fraught battle on day two, while Marty McCormack and David Moynihan claimed the final spot on the podium.

Tom Cave and James Morgan retired on day one after leading the opening stages. It was a cruel blow to last year’s championship runners-up and the BRC team which had come from Italy to run the car.

Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship Round 3: Pirelli Historic Rally, 29-30 April

Nick Elliott and Dave Price continued their impressive form in the 2017 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship with a third win in a row on the Pirelli Historic Rally.

The Ford Escort Mk2 crew finished with a winning margin of just 6.5 seconds over defending champions Jason Pritchard and Phil Clarke after a day-long tussle in dry and dusty conditions in Kielder forest.

Other category wins went to Phil Harris/Richard Suter (Mini Cooper) and Phil Jobson/Arwel Jenkins (Ford Escort Mk1).

British GT Championship
Round 3: Rockingham, 29-30 April

Team Parker Racing’s Rick Parfitt Jnr and Seb Morris claimed victory at Rockingham, after a post-race penalty for gaining an unfair advantage dropped winners-on-the-road Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin to second.

Macmillan AMR and its drivers James Littlejohn and Jack Mitchell also celebrated their first GT3 podium in a two-hour race that will be remembered as a thrilling contest with an uncertain conclusion.

BRDC British F3 Championship
Rounds 4-7: Rockingham, 29-30 April

Enaam Ahmed, Cameron Das and Ben Hingeley shared the victories at Rockingham.

Ahmed made it four wins from the first four races of the 2017 season, as a storming opening lap saw him charge from the second row to the lead and onwards to victory in race one. Das and Callan O’Keeffe completed the podium.

Das took victory in the second race, charging through the field from seventh on the grid to claim his maiden F3 success. Omar Ismail produced a strong performance to take the runner-up spot, while Jamie Chadwick claimed her first F3 podium in third.

Hingeley claimed his first ever F3 victory as he drove a controlled race to take the win in the third and final encounter of the weekend. Carlin’s James Pull put fresh tyres to good use to finish second, while Das settled for third.

MSA British Superkart Championship
Rounds 3-4: Croft, 29 April

Reigning champion Jack Layton extended his lead at the top of the table after two solid results.

In the opening race, he fought back from a first lap excursion to finish fifth. The win went to James O’Reilly who took the lead at the start and was never headed. Dan Clark tried to close the gap but was still 2.5 seconds behind at the flag.

In the second race O’Reilly led the first four laps and looked to be heading for a double win. But a broken exhaust dropped him back to fourth place at the flag. Andy Bird took over at the front and scored his maiden MSA Championship victory. Paul Platt was lying in third place, however a broken chain tensioner dropped him back and Gavin Bennett came through for second place just ahead of Layton.

Avon Tyres/TTC Group MSA British Hill Climb Championship
Rounds 3-4: Craigantlet, 29 April

On the fast closed-roads course the top three was an identical Trevor Willis, Wallace Menzies and Dave Uren each time as 15 registered competitors made the journey to Ulster.
