Bentley ace looking forward to second double-header of season
Welshman and team-mate Parfitt Jnr currently second in standings
Title challenging British GT Championship racer Seb Morris says he is targeting a consistent haul of points at Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk this coming weekend, 27th/28th May, when the second ‘double-header’ of the season takes place – rounds four and five of the campaign.
Bentley Continental GT3 driver Morris, who is partnered by Rick Parfitt Jnr, heads to East Anglia on the crest of a wave after the Team Parker Racing duo secured their maiden victory of 2017 last time out at Rockingham in Northamptonshire during an unpredictable two-hour contest.
Although taking the chequered flag in second place, Morris – who piloted the second one hour stint in the race – was only passed for the lead after contact from a rival entry. Post-race, though, the rightful penalty was applied to the errant Ferrari 488 to give the Bentley racers their deserved win.
Performing very strongly during the first 120-minute race of the season, the championship now reverts to the one-hour format for rounds four and five at Snetterton which is a circuit the pairing enjoyed podium success at last year. They were also fastest there during the pre-season Media Day.
Ahead of the weekend, though, Morris is choosing to err on the side of caution as he believes the current Balance of Performance for the No.31 Bentley will make life trickier than it has been during the first couple of events. Consistent scoring and championship consolidation are the key aims for the BRDC Superstar and MSA Team UK driver.
“It’s going to be tough, we’ve got the Bentley set-up very well but the BOP we have is going to make it difficult to try and finish on the podium”, said the Marford driver, “I know anything can happen in British GT, and last year we did get onto the podium at Snetterton, but if we can come away with two top four finishes, consistent high scores at least, we’ll be satisfied with that.
“I’m looking forward to the weekend, it’s going to be a battle but we’re up for it and Rick and I are well prepared for the two one-hour races. On raw pace I think we might be about a second away but in race conditions we can be closer than that. We’ll definitely be fighting as hard as we can to score as many points as possible.”
Going into the third race meeting of the British GT season, Morris and Parfitt Jnr are second in the championship just 8.5 points adrift of the leading Lamborghini Huracan pairing of Phil Keen and Jon Minshaw – the only other duo to win a race this season thus far.
Opening free practice at Snetterton 300 Circuit will begin at 09.25 on Saturday, 27th May, with the second practice session following at 12.15 and qualifying for rounds four and five getting underway at 15.55.
Race one of the weekend is scheduled to start at 11.40 on Sunday, 28th May, with race two timetabled for 16.00 – both encounters will be screened live on free-to-air channel Front Runner.
