Richardson Racing will expand its programme in the Ginetta GT Challenge this weekend at Silverstone after agreeing a deal with series front-runner Shane Stoney.
The York racer made the move into the series this season having enjoyed success in last season’s Scottish Mini Cooper Cup, where he secured three wins and just missed out on a top ten championship finish despite only running a limited campaign.
Having moved into the Ginetta GT5 Challenge as a privateer entry, Shane has already secured race wins at both Oulton Park and Rockingham to lie second in the championship standings.
Keen to maintain his challenge for the title, Shane has now taken the decision to team up with Richardson Racing for the remainder of the season, with the 22-year-old joining forces with Alex Toth-Jones in an expanded two-car line-up.
The deal will see the Corby-based outfit taking over the running of Shane’s #89 car, whilst it will also provide him with access to the team’s state-of-the-art simulator to aid with his championship push.
“I’m really looking forward to joining Richardson Racing and I feel confident that we can work well together,” he said. “This season has gone well so far, but there is no doubt that it’s been tough trying to do it ourselves and that there is a lot more to come from me.
“We’ve been trying to learn as much as possible with the car but are up against teams that have a lot of experience and knowledge at this level, so it makes perfect sense to join forces with one of those teams to maintain my championship challenge.
“Richardson Racing is a team that has a great reputation and always shows first rate professionalism in the paddock, so I’m excited to start our relationship this weekend.
“Things like being able to sit down after a session and go through the data to see where I can improve is something that I feel will really help me as I haven’t had that previously, and I’m sure that the experience within the team will help me push on in the race for the title.”
Team boss Gwyn Richardson meanwhile was pleased to confirm the addition of Shane to the team.
“It goes without saying that we’re really pleased to welcome Shane onboard from this weekend at Silverstone,” he said. “He has been very impressive so far this season as a privateer entry, and we’re confident that we can form a strong partnership to help him push forwards in his bid for the championship.
“Expanding to two cars is also good for us as a team, particularly as both drivers are more than capable of running at the front of the field and challenging for race wins.
“We’re confident that Alex and Shane will form a solid partnership and are keen to see both bring home some strong results on their first weekend together this weekend at Silverstone.”
