Tight at the top in Legends Cars BTCC prize test battle

Jack Parker new leader in chase for prize touring car test
Only three points separate top three drivers in league table
Everything to play for ahead of MRF Legends Cars resumption

Ever-improving MRF Legends Cars National Championship racer Jack Parker (Wolverhampton) is the new leader in the battle for the category’s end-of-season prize of a fully-funded British Touring Car Championship test, it is revealed today.

Parker, who enjoyed a stellar weekend of racing during the third event of the season at Cadwell Park last month with two victories from the six races contested, is currently third in the MRF Legends Cars driver standings and now has the added momentum of topping the BTCC prize chase.

Only three points separate the top three drivers in the standalone league table with actual championship leader Ben Power (Guilsfield, Powys) in second place followed by Sean Smith (High Wycombe) in third.

Just two points further adrift is top rookie driver Miles Rudman (Sutton Coldfield), with Steve Whitelegg (Bury) and Nathan Anthony (Horley) close behind. Only 12 points cover the top six drivers in the BTCC prize table where scores are allocated and awarded in areas such as sportsmanship and presentation, as well as track performance.

“It’s been an absolutely fantastic season up to now with some incredible racing, phenomenally close on-track battles and a huge amount of respect shown between competitors, which is what we strive for in the MRF Legends Cars National Championship”, said series owner Phil Cooper.

“There’s a fantastic buzz surrounding the BTCC prize test with Handy Motorsport, which has been building since the announcement back in January at the Autosport International Show, and as the current league table shows there’s very little in it!”

Without any shadow of a doubt, the BTCC prize being offered by the MRF Legends Cars – in connection with top touring car team Handy Motorsport – is one of the biggest in club-level racing. More importantly, the unique scoring criteria and league table which is completely separate from the main championship means every driver has a genuine chance to win the coveted prize.

Current BTCC racers Rob Austin and Dave Newsham, plus ex-BTCC racer and Handy team principal Simon Belcher, who all have key Legends Cars experience, comprise the judging panel with points allocations based on official reports, results and imagery.

Uniquely, a category such as ‘sportsmanship’ carries huge significance as it rewards respect shown by drivers to other competitors, officials and the championship as a whole, helping to nurture and retain the renowned fun and friendly atmosphere of the MRF Legends Cars National Championship.

While Cadwell Park seems like a lifetime ago, the MRF Legends Cars will soon resume the 2017 season with the fourth race meeting of the campaign taking place over the weekend 1st/2nd July at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire.

BTCC Prize League Table
1st Jack Parker, 172pts; 2nd Ben Power, 171pts; 3rd Sean Smith, 170pts;

7th John Mickel, 156pts; 8th Gary Whitelegg, 143pts; 9th Tom Grainger, 142pts;
