Shelsley Walsh Classic Nostalgia: Bluebird, the legacy lives on

This year Shelsley Walsh ‘Classic Nostalgia’ will pay homage to British ‘speed kings’ Sir Malcolm Campbell MBE and Donald Campbell CBE who between them broke more than 20 World Land and Water Speed Records. 2017 commemorates the 50th anniversary of Donald Campbell’s death, to mark the occasion his daughter Gina and nephew Don Wales will unveil a special NEW limited edition ‘Blue Bird’ Atalanta at Shelsley Walsh, plus nine significant vehicles associated with the Campbell family will take to the iconic hill climb course in a special tribute parade to honour the racing legends.

As a precursor to the weekend Gina Campbell and Don Wales will take part in a special press call on the start line on Friday 21 July at Shelsley Walsh alongside Donald Campbell’s famous mascot Mr Whoppit and an incredible array of Campbell cars including:

NAPIER BLUEBIRD 700hp W12 REPLICA: From 1927 - 28 this engine was used in aircraft. In 1928 – 31 it was marinized for sea use and was the prototype from which the Sea Lion was produced. The owner’s Grandfather purchased this engine in 1932. The car was built 7 years ago as a replica of the land speed car driven by Malcolm Campbell on Pendine Sands in 1927 at 174.88mph.

JAGUAR XK150: This car was owned by Donald Campbell and is famous for being on the quayside at Aix-les-bains as K7 did a promotional tour prior to its ill-fated run.

FORD V8 WOODY: First time owner was Sir Malcolm Campbell who owned a Ford dealership at the time. Bluebird Blue paint can be seen in places under the flaking green it now sports.
