MSA Championships Update

Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Championship
Rounds 4-5: Mondello Park, 23 July

Multiple former champion Julian Godfrey won both rounds of the double-header at Mondello Park in Ireland to take the championship lead.

Ollie O’Donovan finished second to Godfrey in round four but rolled his car in the semi-final of round five and retired. Title protagonist Oliver Bennett was third of the British RX points scorers in round four and battled Godfrey for the lead of round five to score another podium and sit just three points adrift in the standings during his maiden season.

Tony Lynch and Tristan Ovenden won the in MSA Supernational Rallycross Championship category, while Ole Henry Steinsholt and Tom Llewellin claimed a victory each in the MSA Junior Rallycross Championship.

Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship
Round 4: Ceri, 22-23 July

After major engine problems forced him out of the previous round, Martin Gould was back at the top of leaderboard at Ceri, taking his third win of the season.

Gould took the lead on the opening run and remained in front for the full event. “We couldn’t have made a better start,” he said. “After the first run it was a case of keeping the momentum up and building a lead. Our championship challenge is right back on track."

Adrian Marfell was second, equalling his best ever BCCC result. Justin Birchall completed the top three.

Round 9: Gerry P Evans Cymru Car Trial, North Wales Car Club, 22 July

Shawn Franklin won the Cymru Car Trial to end Henry Kitching’s two-year dominance of the new car class.

A stunning climb during the last round as conditions deteriorated gave a jubilant Franklin his second win in three events. Rupert North took his customary class win in his Mini to finish third overall. Meanwhile in the rear-wheel-drive class Steve Courts beat Barrie Parker by just two points, having trailed with a round to go.

Round 10: HCC Wales, Clywdd Vale Motor Club, 23 July

Rupert North won the HCC Wales event with a 20-point margin of victory in his class, while Dave Oliver fixed his Imp overnight and dominated the rear-wheel-drive class.

Oliver was in contention for overall victory but suffered more engine troubles, which were traced to a loose inlet manifold. Meanwhile the battle of the day was in the new car class between Shawn Franklin, Trevor Moffatt and reigning British champion Henry Kitching. Franklin snuck the win on the last round of sections to take the championship lead with one round left.

Round 8: Maximum Attack Autotest, South of Scotland Car Club, 22 July

Former champion Steven Ferguson won the Maximum Attack Autotest in Dumfries after a dominant performance in changing conditions.

Ferguson took an immediate lead after the first round of three tests and extended his advantageover the second round to lead Dave Mosey by eight seconds, with Richard Pinkney and Malcolm Livingston a further 10 seconds back.

The afternoon tests began without drama but the weather soon changed that. Heavy rain fell during the first round and the event was halted after the 12th test to await an improvement. The three test sites resembled boating lakes and after 30 minutes, competitors and marshals alike were keen to resume the competition. Ferguson continued to dominate and won ahead of Pinkney and Mosey.
