MSA Championships Update


Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship
Rounds 19-21: Knockhill, 12-13 August

Jason Plato and Ashley Sutton claimed a win apiece, while Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram came out victorious in the final encounter at Knockhill.

Plato converted his 50th BTCC career pole position into a commanding lights-to-flag victory in the opener, as he signalled his return to form in style. Sutton and Colin Turkington completed the podium.

Sutton then secured his fifth win of the 2017 BTCC season as he pipped Plato in race two. Turkington completed the top three.

Ingram won the final encounter around the tight 1.3-mile circuit. Reigning champion Gordon Shedden grabbed a hugely popular second place finish, while Turkington completed his podium hat-trick with third.

Colin Turkington moved to the top of the BTCC standings after scoring a podium hat-trick at the Scottish circuit.

Rounds 12, 19-21: Knockhill, 12-13 August

Oscar Piastri, Jamie Caroline and Oliver York shared the victories in the British F4 rounds at Knockhill.

Piastri made it win number four of the season in Round 19, from a hard-charging Caroline and team-mate Ayrton Simmons.

Caroline extended his championship lead, winning the rescheduled Round 12 race from Oulton Park. He was followed home by team-mate Logan Sargeant who ensured Carlin recorded their second one-two finish of the campaign. Karl Massaad completed the podium.

York took his maiden British F4 win in Round 20 of the season and brought home Fortec Motorsports’ first win of the campaign. Sargeant chased down York in second, while Hampus Ericsson provided fans with a thrilling display of defensive driving to hold on to the final podium place.

TRS Arden wrapped up their Knockhill weekend in style with an emphatic one-two-three finish, as Piastri took his fifth win of the campaign from Alex Quinn and Simmons.

Avon Tyres/TTC Group MSA British Hill Climb Championship
Rounds 23 – 26: Shelsley Walsh, 12-13 August

Wallace Menzies, Scott Moran and Will Hall won rounds 23-26 of the championship at Shelsley Walsh.

Menzies won Saturday’s two rounds, a third victory in succession following his Wiscombe Park victory.

Six-time champion Moran, took round 25 on Sunday but in the final round Hall claimed his maiden Shelsley victory and with it, the best time of the whole weekend.

Moran will only appear in one more event this season – the finale at Loton Park – but he is one of six drivers already guaranteed a top ten number for 2018. Series leader Trevor Willis may not have posted a win but 30 points from the weekend pushes him ever closer to a second championship.

ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship
Round 6: Grampian Forest Rally, 12 August

David Bogie and Kevin Rae took a commanding victory in Aberdeenshire, but all eyes were on Euan Thorburn and Paul Beaton whose second-place finish was enough to net them their second MSA Scottish Rally Championship title.

The Skoda Fabia R5 crew won the event by 58 seconds from Thorburn and Beaton’s Fiesta R5, with Jock Armstrong and Paula Swinscoe completing the SRC podium.

Bogie was quickest through all six of the event’s stages, with just 24 seconds separating the battling Thorburn and Armstrong.

MSA British Cadet Kart Championship
Round 8: Larkhall, 12-13 August

Oliver Gray took pole in timed qualifying at Larkhall and held it after the heats, but the big news this weekend is that Taylor Barnard’s winning streak is over after a DNF in the first final.

Irishman Alex Dunne took the lead at the start of final one after Gray started on pole, and won ahead of Maxwell Dodds. In Final 2 Dunne again led from start to finish ahead of Dodds while Barnard stormed through the field, gaining 24 places to third.
