IPSWICH are on the brink of the SGB Championship play-offs after a 56-36 win over Berwick at Foxhall.
Rory Schlein raced to a 14-point haul for the Witches, beaten only by Nick Morris in Heat 13, whilst guest Lewis Kerr (13) and Kyle Newman (11+4) were both in the major points.
Morris supplied three of the Bandits’ five race wins on his way to a 13-point total.
There was plenty of drama prior to Heat 6 as the stadium was plunged into darkness after a generator failure, but after a lengthy delay power was restored and racing was able to resume.
Witches boss Ritchie Hawkins said: “It was close in the first half of the meeting and then we ploughed on at the end and got a big win.
“When it was close I thought we had enough in hand and it was a steady night. The hold-up didn’t help the meeting but that can’t be helped and we go onto three tough away meetings now.”
Berwick boss Gary Havelock said: "We rode better than that score suggests tonight with all the guys having their moments and getting dug right in there.
“Ipswich are a good side and they're not top two for nothing so we were right up against it to get a result, saying that we looked the part tonight!”

THE Isle of Wight stunned Mildenhall with a 53-37 win at Smallbrook to dent the Fen Tigers’ play-off hopes.
The result was also a major boost to the Warriors’ hopes of avoiding the wooden spoon, and ended a run of six consecutive National League defeats – four of them at home.
Mid-season signing Scott Campos led the way for the hosts with 13 points, backed up by Ben Wilson on 12 in a solid team display which saw the Warriors run just three last places.
For the Fen Tigers, guest Ben Morley scored 12 with Dan Halsey adding nine, but they never threatened a recovery from going ten points down in the first four heats.
Isle of Wight co-promoter Martin Widman said: "What a fantastic performance by all our riders. We had to respond to Buxton’s shock draw away from home last weekend and this win was just what we were looking for.
"Our loyal fans deserved that and it sets us up nicely for our final home league match here in a fortnight against Cradley. Oh how we would love to win that one!"

EDINBURGH face two home matches in one night tonight (Friday) as they look to overhaul Redcar in the race for SGB Championship play-off places.
The Monarchs take on Workington and then Ipswich, and a double win would in fact take them above Scottish rivals Glasgow who were frustrated by the weather on Thursday.
Home boss Alex Harkess hopes a return to a full-strength line-up for the first time since mid-June can pay dividends, with Mark Riss back in the side.
Harkess said: “Some of our riders are now returning from injury and maybe we will see what we have been looking for - a full seven-man performance.
“This has been the aim all year but for one reason or another has not really happened. It’s in our hands hand though, and we just have to go out and do it.”
The Witches name Thomas Jorgensen as a guest for Cameron Heeps, with rider-replacement in operation for Justin Sedgmen.
Ipswich boss Ritchie Hawkins said: “First off, we hope it is dry, which will be a miracle going to Edinburgh.
“It is tough going on second as they have had a meeting to warm up before they face us. We could potentially be going there again this season so we need to go there and put in a good performance.”
Meanwhile Redcar, who currently occupy fourth place, complete their home programme with a tough test against leaders Sheffield.
The Bears have won their last three matches at the Media Prima Arena but take on a Tigers side in top form, with 13 successive wins to their name – including a 49-41 success at the same venue last month.
Redcar boss Jitendra Duffill said: “We made it three out of three home wins last week, all against teams above us in the league. This week we aim to make it four but I believe this will be the toughest one yet.
“Sheffield have been the stand-out team of the season and they were very impressive here a few weeks ago.
“Having said that, I have watched our performances become stronger by the week since then and it gives me confidence that we can take another three points and keep the pressure on Edinburgh for that fourth play-off spot.”
Sheffield star Josh Grajczonek said: “We need to get through these meetings unscathed, then we’ll think about the play-offs when we come to it.
“We can’t get ahead of ourselves and a lot can still happen before the play-offs. We just want to keep winning meetings and keep riding well like we’ve been doing recently.”
Peterborough expect to welcome back Bradley Wilson-Dean for their home clash with Scunthorpe at the East of England Arena.
Wilson-Dean is set for a morning practice and will return to the side if he comes through with no ill effects on his wrist injury.
Boss Carl Johnson said: “It will be a big boost to have Bradley back on a bike. We've certainly missed him as we've had to operate rider replacement in the majority of meetings while he has been out.
“Bradley is a six-point rider capable of performing really strongly home and away, so it is far from ideal when three of his rides have to be taken by reserves.
“Bradley started the season superbly at reserve and has certainly held his own in the main body of the side. Hopefully he can now have a big finish and help us achieve our aim of winning more silverware.”
Scott Nicholls guests at No.1 for the Panthers in place of Jack Holder (World U21 Final) whilst Jake Allen is due back from injury for the Scorpions – but Josh Auty misses out with a shoulder problem after a crash at Wolverhampton on Monday.
Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Josh took quite a knock, so he’s going to sit out our meetings at Peterborough and Glasgow.
“But he’s determined to try to be back for the meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday, when Edinburgh are in town.
“With the issue of our new averages, Lewis Kerr moves to No 1, while Josh Auty becomes our second heat-leader, which means all his team-mates can take a rider replacement ride.”

MILDENHALL continue their crucial Southern tour with a trip to Plymouth in the National League tonight (Friday).
The match is also a dress rehearsal for a silverware clash between the sides later in the season as they will also meet in the National Trophy Final next month.
The Devils are unchanged from last week’s win over Lakeside with Jamie Halder continuing to stand in for the unwell Saul Bulley, whilst Ben Morley again guests for the Fen Tigers in place of Connor Mountain who is on Championship duty.
Danno Verge remains on the sidelines for the visitors with a collarbone injury as they look to bounce back from their defeat at the Isle of Wight on Thursday.
Meanwhile Belle Vue host Cradley in the first leg of their Knockout Cup clash at the National Speedway Stadium.
The Colts call up Ben Hopwood to guest at No.1 with Dan Bewley still on the sidelines, and rider replacement is in operation for Lee Payne.
Reserve Andy Mellish said: “We’re really looking forward to it. All the lads are proud of the home record we’ve forged for ourselves and if possible, we want to try and maintain it; but we will need to work hard to do so.
“It would be another feather in our cap to progress into the KOC semi-finals but if nothing else, we should at least be looking at this two-legged qualifier as practice for the imminent play-offs.”
The Heathens will be without their spearhead duo Danny Ayres and Tom Perry for the trip to Manchester; Ayres is required for Championship outfit Redcar whilst captain Perry sustained arm and rib injuries whilst guesting for Premiership side King’s Lynn on Monday.
In-form Birmingham man Liam Carr has been drafted in as a guest and team manager Will Pottinger has challenged his side to keep things as tight as possible.
He said: “Belle Vue have got a very good team so we’re expecting a tough match. Of course we’re handicapped by being without or top two riders in Danny and Tom but hopefully Liam can come in, win some races and score a good amount of points.
“Richard Hall will be our captain for the night, which is a great honour for him, and hopefully he can make his experience count.
“Realistically, it’s important that we look to keep the score as close as we possibly can ahead of our home leg later in the month.”
