Lynch keen to cement top three slot in Croft Rallycroft finale

Tony Lynch has his sights firmly set on cementing his top three championship position when the Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Championship heads for Croft this weekend for the final round of the year.

The Lucas Oil Team Geriatric driver goes into the final round sitting third in the Supernational Class standings having battled back well from a wretched start to the campaign – with a myriad of engine issues in the early rounds hitting his bid for the title.

That included an engine failure in round one at Croft back in March that unfortunately set the tone for the opening meetings.

Since resolving the problems with his Ford KA however, Tony has roared back to form and goes into the final event on a run of five straight top two finishes.

Those results mean the reigning champion heads back to the North Yorkshire circuit this weekend having fought his way back into the top three, with his main focus on now maintaining his current position in the standings.

“Of course I want to go for the win if the chance arises, but after the start to the season we had, my main focus is to make sure we end the year in the top three,” he said. “That would be a fantastic achievement considering the position we were in after the first few rounds and something I feel we could be genuinely proud of.

“We wanted to be in a position to fight for the title when we got to the final round but now that is no longer possible, we’re taking a different view this weekend.

“There is no point in me going out and taking a ‘do or die’ approach and my focus is on making sure we finish in the top three in the season standings. I’m not going to do anything stupid and want to stay out of trouble to pick up the points we need to do that. Anything above that will be a bonus for us.”
