Double R Racing set to field two Dallara F318 cars in Euroformula

TWO-TIME BRITISH F3 CHAMPIONS CONFIRM EXPANSION INTO EUROFORMULA OPEN FOR 2018

• High profile British team joins increasingly popular Euroformula
• Two-time British F3 champs to make welcome return to Europe

Top Formula 3 team Double R Racing has confirmed it will debut in Euroformula Open from 2018 with a pair of Dallara F318 cars in the increasingly popular pan-European category.

Marking a welcome return to racing on the continent for the two-time British Formula 3 Champions, the decorated Woking squad is adding participation in the GT Sport organised series to its existing commitments in BRDC British F3 and the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford.

Last competing full-time on European soil in 2015 in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, Double R is relishing the prospect of joining Euroformula Open which has its foundations in the former Spanish F3 Championship and, latterly, the European F3 Open.

“Going forward, in my view, Euroformula Open is going to be the premier single-seater series in Europe for young drivers, so I’m delighted to announce Double R Racing is going to be joining the championship for the 2018 season with two cars”, said team principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt.

“It’s one of the only places you can now drive a top spec Formula 3 car, and with the future demise of FIA F3 this championship is the perfect fit for Double R to add to our commitments in BRDC British F3 and British Formula 4.”

Featuring Dallara cars powered by Toyota engines, with the powerplants provided directly by GT Sport and maintained by Piedrafita Sport, the cars run on Michelin supplied tyres and the series is accessible to drivers aged 16 years and over holding an International C racing licence.

Visiting circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Paul Ricard in France, Monza in Italy, the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain and Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in the UK, Euroformula Open runs across eight race weekends and benefits from live television coverage and online streaming.

Hieatt added: “Euroformula races on some fabulous circuits, it has very stable organisation and the calendar provides some great track time for the drivers with sensible budgets. We’re really looking forward to being part of the championship and working with GT Sport, it’s going to be fantastic to be racing with our Dallara F318s in Europe again.”

On behalf of Euroformula Open, CEO of GT Sport Jesús Pareja commented: “We would like to give a warm welcome to Double R Racing to our series. We are proud to see they have included the Euroformula Open in their racing activities for 2018. I am sure they will make significant contributions to further raise the series’ competitiveness next year.”
