BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Peter Auto’s latest ambition is to see the most beautiful wonders produced by the world’s motor car industry roaring along French roads again in an exceptional rally reinforcing its role in celebrating the ‘art de vivre à la Française’ with the backing of its faithful partner, Richard Mille.
6C, 8C, 33/2, TZ 2 Alfa Romeos, DB3S, DB4 GT Zagato Aston Martins, 3 Litre, 41/2 Litre, 61/2 Litre, 8-litre Bentleys, Type 43, 51, 55, 57 Bugattis, Ford GT40s and Shelby Cobra Daytonas, 166, 225, 340, 250 GTO, 250 Tour de France, 250 LM Ferraris, Type C, D, E Lightweight Jaguars, Matra 650s, Maserati A6, 200, 300s, SSK, SSKL, 300 SL Mercedes-Benz aluminium coupes, 550 RS, 718, 904, 906, 907 and 910 Porsches have been raised to the rank of icons in the collective imagination and they are surely the most beautiful cars ever made. These very rare automotive legends are of inestimable value and they are now only seen in exhibitions, a far cry from their natural environment in the past.
Peter Auto, a reputed specialist organiser of international events like the Tour Optic 2ooo and Le Mans Classic dedicated to classic cars, and more recently Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille, which have all been awarded numerous prizes, has decided to offer owners of these remarkable cars a new opportunity to give them a run in the Rallye des Légendes Richard Mille. Participation in this unique event of its type will be limited to 50 cars produced between 1925 and 1975 selected depending on their exceptional and historic character.
The idea of competition will be totally absent from the Rallye des Légendes Richard Mille that will be held over a three-day period on a star-shaped route which, every evening, will bring the participants back to the hub town. On the programme is the celebration of the ‘art de vivre à la Française’ through the discovery of a different French region every year whose diversity and hidden treasures will be highlighted; a daily leg of 250 kilometres maximum on the traces of famous special stages as well as runs on a circuit, visits to the hotspots of local patrimony, gastronomic lunches and dinners created by the greatest chefs as well as a night time break in top-class hotels.
Richard Mille, Peter Auto’s long-time partner in its events, is its first team-mate in this rally, which is the perfect embodiment of the values of exclusivity, knowhow, elegance and perfection of the eponymous watch maker. This event in September 2018 is already eagerly awaited by its future participants and by connoisseurs everywhere.
CAERM moves to the summer
While the 4th Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille again met with unanimous success among the participants and the public (the spectator attendance registered a 20% increase compared to 2016, reaching a total of 16 300 visitors), Peter Auto and Richard Mille have decided to change its date. Faced with the complexity of organising an event of this scale at the beginning of September (start of school, other major rendezvous, etc.) Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille will now take place in July in odd-numbered years alternately with Le Mans Classic. Thus, the event’s organisation and development will enjoy optimal conditions to achieve an even more successful concours, which will be all the more eagerly awaited by collectors and visitors alike.
So the next staging will take place in Chantilly in 2019. In the meantime the classes in the Concours d’Etat will be revealed at the Peter Auto Press Conference at the next Rétromobile Exhibition.
Richard Mille: “Although I’m a designer of avant-garde watches I’m also a dyed-in-the-wool fan of classic cars which, in my opinion, are real works of art. Some of them are the incarnation of the major mechanical and aesthetic challenges of their era. Like Richard Mille watches they are objects of passion, generate emotions and their raison d’être is action. A vehicle’s beauty only truly comes alive when it’s moving! Thus, Patrick Peter and I are determined to create the Rallye des Légendes and invite the most exclusive cars in the world to take part in it.”
Patrick Peter: “For Richard and me the creation of the Rallye des Légendes was an obvious step as we both prefer to see exceptional cars in action rather than on display. It’s also in keeping with the spirit of Peter Auto which, in 2010, created the Trofeo Nastro Rosso that allows owners of the most beautiful GT and Sports cars to take part in circuit races all year long while respecting strict sporting and ethical rules. The Rallye des Légendes is inspired by the same philosophy. Its aim is to become a rendezvous reserved exclusively for cars that have reached such an inestimable value that their owners no longer dare to drive them! Richard and I are going to create all the right conditions to make this possible again.”
