Based on the enormously successful 360 Modena, the Challenge Stradale was Ferrari’s decidedly well-executed effort to satisfy customers in search of a street car that could double as a highly competitive track warrior. This concours-level 2004 360 Challenge Stradale is one of just 378 built for the US market. According to the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale Registry, only 5% were delivered in the highly desirable Nero (Black), making this striking example an extraordinarily rare and beautiful automobile.

Beginning with the 360 Modena’s lightweight aluminum monocoque, powerful flat-plane alloy V-8 engine, six-speed paddle-shifted semiautomatic gearbox, and striking aluminum bodywork, Ferrari’s mission was simple – make the car faster and make it lighter … and make it stop and handle better.

Engine output was increased to 425 bhp through the use of ported heads, a revised intake manifold, and lightweight, free-flowing exhaust. Throttle response was reprogrammed, as was the F1 six-speed paddle-shifted gearbox, which resulted in 40% quicker gear changes over the standard 360 Modena. Creature comforts such as sound-deadening, radio, and carpeting were jettisoned in favor of lightweight alternatives, though air-conditioning remained. Door panels, center console, door mirrors, and seats were replaced with lightweight carbon fiber pieces. Even the car’s large glass backlight was replaced with a lightweight Lexan version. The Ferrari Enzo’s legendary Brembo carbon ceramic brakes were appropriated, and the Challenge Stradale received a lowered ride height, stiffer titanium coil springs, beefier rear sway bar, lightweight Stradalespecific wheels, and cockpit adjustable shocks. When debuted at the 2003 Geneva Auto Show, it was an instant hit with Ferrari fans and the motoring press, and for good reason. The car was a brilliant success.

This striking Nero over Black and Red Alcantara 2004 360 Challenge Stradale was well optioned with painted tricolor stripe, yellow brake calipers, fire extinguisher, pre-wired battery charger, and contrasting stitching. The car was delivered new by Cauley Ferrari of West Bloomfield, Michigan. Official dealers and respected Ferrari specialists have meticulously maintained it throughout its pampered life. Fastidious attention included a March 2017 belt service. It has always been cherished by collector owners, and its immaculate condition reflects the care it has received.
